How to create a magical herb and plant garden in 5 steps

  • 5 min read

First of all, you don't need a lot of space to create your own magic garden. In fact, I suggest using a large pot that you can place inside or outside your home. This is by far the most practical option, as it gives you better control over factors such as watering, insect management and light. And the pot can be easily moved if required. (in french)

Here's what you'll need to create your magic garden:

- Large pot

- Soil

- Seeds (organic, if possible)

- Quartz points

- Moon or spring water(Click hereto access my video on how to make moon water).

Step 1: Choosing seeds

Here are a few suggestions of interesting plants to grow:

Basil

Basil seeds are easy to find. You can use this easy-to-grow herb to flavour a multitude of dishes and add a magical touch to your meals. Basil is used in rituals associated with friendship, reconciliation, attraction, luck and trust.

Peppermint

Peppermint is also easy to grow. You can use it to make herbal teas or add it to your cocktails to make them magical. This plant is renowned for encouraging action, change, concentration, creativity and desire, as well as improving sleep and reducing stress.

Thyme

Thyme is also easy to grow. It's a versatile aromatic plant whose leaves can be added to many recipes. It is ideal for rituals relating to happiness, calm, clairvoyance, protection and fairy magic.

Rosemary

Rosemary is also a very pleasant and versatile plant that is excellent for adding to your dishes. It is used in rituals to find true love, chase away nightmares, break bewitchments, encourage determination, end a cycle and remember dreams. It is also used for magical activities involving elves.

Sage

Sage is an indispensable magic herb. It can grow in arid soils and withstands heat well. I recommend common sage, which is perfect for cooking, but can also be burnt for purification purposes. It is essential for magic in general, particularly for rituals aimed at letting go, consecration and fertility.

IMPORTANT: Don't use fertiliser in your garden, as the aim is not to grow full plants, but rather to grow plants that are as energetic and magical as possible.

Step 2: Perform a consecration ritual

Before you begin, it's important to consecrate the soil, the pot, the seeds and the quartz points in order to transmit an intention to them. This step does not apply to moon water, which already contains the energy of the moon, or to spring water.

Consecration is an act that could be compared to a blessing in the Catholic religion. In Quebec, for example, there was a time when the village priest was asked to bless farmland to ensure good harvests. In magic, we speak of "consecration", but the objective is similar. Through this ritual, we ask our earth, our seeds and our tools to give us healthy plants. This step is particularly important because it energises our garden and makes it magical.

Here's a simple way to do it.

  • Set up outside on a fine day. Ideally at dawn on a Monday, as this is a good time to sow.

  • Sit on the ground and draw a circle of salt around yourself. Place the objects outside the circle. You can use sea salt or any other type of salt. By doing this, we hope to prevent negative energies from interfering with the consecration ritual.

  • Then ask for help from your guides, angels, god or goddess, or simply ask the universal energy to accompany you.

  • Turn your hands towards the sky and ask the energy to fill you, so that you can then transmit your intentions to your tools. Concentrate on your requests, which you can formulate as you see fit. Here's an example:

"I ask the Universe (or any other force) to fill me with the necessary energy to transmit it to this earth, these seeds, this pot and these stones so that they bring me magical plants that will be used to perform benevolent rituals. May it be so.

  • When your hands start to tingle, it's a sign that you've received the energy. Position your hands over your material and visualise the energy being transferred to the objects. Concentrate on your intentions.

  • Thank the energy (or your guide) and allow it to leave.

  • Finally, calmly sweep your circle of salt to bring the consecration ritual to an end.

There are several ways of consecrating objects. Some people work with the cardinal points or invoke towers, while others call on guides or angels in a much more complex way. As far as I'm concerned, I wanted to share with you my personal method, which is quite simple.

Step 3: Sow and water your seeds

I recommend that you sow your seeds on a Monday at dawn, or at least in the morning, as this is considered a favourable time for magic and fertility rituals.

  • Push your quartz sticks into the earth with the point upwards, bearing in mind that your seeds will be sown all around. The quartz will channel the energy of the moon and sun and transmit it to the earth.

  • Place the seeds around the quartz according to the instructions on the sachets. Plunge yourself into a serene state of mind and think about your intentions and the life you are about to bring into being.

  • Sprinkle gently with moon water. If you don't have any, you can use rainwater or spring water. Then, if the garden is outside, you can let the rain do its work. If the garden is indoors, always use moon, rain or spring water.

Stage 4: Picking

Harvesting should be subject to a ritual similar to that performed when sowing the seeds. Show respect for the plant and take the time to thank it for offering you a part of itself for your use. You can use a knife or scissors that you have dedicated beforehand, or at least one that you will use only for your magic plants.

Step 5: Use and store

You can, of course, eat your magic herbs when they're fresh, but there are also several methods for preserving them for longer.

You can dry the leaves of your herbs using a food dehydrator, or simply hang them up in a cool, dark place. You can also crush them and turn them into ice cubes, which is very handy for adding to your recipes.

I encourage you to use your magic herbs in a variety of ways! Here are a few examples:

  • Spice up your cooked dishes, especially soups, sauces and salads.

  • Make herbal teas with a host of benefits.

  • Prepare love potions.

  • Add them to your drinks.

  • Turn the dried leaves of your plants into natural incense.

  • Throw a few herbs into a purifying fire to add a magical touch to your ritual.

  • Use them in your magical baths.

  • Wear them in sachets, depending on the desired intention.

That's all there is to it! Now have fun growing your own herbs and enjoying their magical benefits!
